Important Security Enhancement: Password Requirements for Your Retirement Plan Account

To help keep your account secure, Popular Fiduciary Services (PFS) is updating the password requirements for participant access to the retirement plan website.

What’s changing on May 1, 2026?

The password requirements for accessing popular.com/401k will be updated in accordance with industry security standards, as outlined below.

New password requirement

  • Minimum password length: at least 12 characters long (previously 8).
  • When you log in on or after May 1, you will be prompted to change your password.
  • Passwords will now expire every 6 months, so you’ll be asked to update them twice per year.

Password rules that remain the same

  • Cannot match your Social Security Number or User ID
  • Must be alphanumeric
  • Must include mixed characters and special characters (!@#$%^&*)
  • Cannot reuse your last 5 passwords
